Hostels with a Kitchen in Bolivia

As a “celiaca”, I sometimes struggle to find gluten-free options while traveling. The option that gives me peace of mind is to cook for myself, as I know this is 100% gluten-free.
However, hostels with a kitchen are (for some reason) not so common in Bolivia 🙁

HostelWorld has for some reason removed the filter for kitchen from their site, making it much harder for us… anyway, we did the hard work of searching for them, so we thought we could share it with you and hopefully you’ll find it handy.
Note that it’s always cheaper to book directly, either by WhatsApp or just by showing up. You can often ask for a small discount if you stay for a longer time or just if you ask nicely. But if you book through these links, we’ll get a small commission.

P.S If you booked a hostel with a kitchen but have no inspiration to cook, check out this list of easy recipes for backpacker meals 🙂

P.S 2 note that everything takes longer in altitude – up to 1.5 the time from our experience, and rice / beans / pasta may not be ready at all.

Some of the links in this post are affiliate links. This means that we earn a small commission (to keep the blog going) if you book or buy anything through them. There is no extra cost for you - you pay the same as you would otherwise.

Cochabamba

El Pueblito hostel had a really nice kitchen with a stove, oven, and multiple microwaves (Sergio the owner even cooks the eggs for breakfast in them!!!).

La Paz

Greenhouse Bolivia in Sopocachi has a huge kitchen with a stove, oven, and many utensils.

Florez apartments in Sopocachi are really cozy in well located and have an equipped kitchen with an oven, microwave, stove, and blender. They could improve on the utensils angle, but we assume they already did as they were really open to hearing our feedback.

We loved cooking here. FLOREZ apartment in La Paz

Samaipata

For more tips on the town, check out our post

Hostal Camping El Jardin had a stove and BBQ facilities (Robin made a pizza there!). The kitchen was not always clean, and there were only 3 cups available.

Finca La Víspera had a really nice kitchen in the camping place, and you could also use fresh veggies and herbs from their garden!

Sucre

Casa de Huespedes Isabella had a clean kitchen with an oven and a stove. They also serve breakfast and are generally super friendly. When you are in Sucre, we recommend the Maragua Crater hike.

Potosi

Hostal La Casona had quite a lame kitchen – the fridge didn’t work and you had to ask the reception for cutlery! But this is the only option we found in town with a kitchen.

Uyuni

Hostal La Roca had a surprisingly cute kitchen on the top floor, including oil and spices. In case you are doing a Salar tour, check our tips 🙂

Oruru

Backpackers Oruro B&B was the cheapest option we found, though it is a bit out of town. They had 2 kitchens, but only the one in the top floor was usable, though lacking some cleaning and organizing.

Sajama

Doña Teodora/Franklin’s hostel – the other side of the road from Alta Montana. Using the kitchen needed a small propina (tip) for the gas – they were happy with 10BOBs for 4 days we were there. Frank’s number: +59173738781 – you can find him in the trans sajama office or in Doña Teodora’s tienda on the other side of the square. Sajama is a good base for Lagunas de Altura track.

Isla del Sol (north)

We ended up cooking on our own stove in hostel mirador, which was the nicest in the north side of the island. However, the hostel in the alley behind WIILKA UTA restaurant should have a stove, and Refugio Ecologico Wiracocha offered us to use their wood-fired based kitchen.

Coroico

El Rincon del Jucumari offers a gas stove and use of their personal fridge. When we were there, the stove was taken so we could use the family kitchen.

Rurrenabaque

Hotel Santa Ana was the only hostel with a kitchen that we found.
